I got this story, over a great pizza and a couple of pitchers, from a friend named Jake Elder over at Washington University, in Missouri.
Ever hear that idea about how a million monkeys, with a million typewriters and enough time, could reproduce the works of William Shakespeare?
Well, according to Jake, they didn't have much time, just a semester; a short group of measly weeks, as he put it. And, they didn't have a barrel full of monkeys, let alone a million of them.
But, they did have a couple of pretty sharp white mice. Oh, and a series of funky colored concoctions from a group of researchers in the genetics and chemistry departments at Washington University. Turns out? That was more than enough.
But wait, this is Jake's story. I'll let him tell it....
